Dr. Abeera P. Rehmat joined CEISMC’s evaluation team in August 2021. Abeera earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction: STEM Education from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, an M.S. in Elementary Education, and a B.S. in Computer Science from St. John’s University, New York.  Research and teaching in STEM/Engineering Education at the college and pre-college level has been her focus throughout her research. Abeera has developed curriculum, written grants, engaged in various research methods, and collaborated with academic/industry partners. Her teaching experience includes over ten years of classroom teaching covering grades first through eighth and over six years of college teaching. Prior to this position, Abeera has held appointments as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Indiana University, and Purdue University’s INSPIRE Research Institute for Pre-College Engineering where she received recognition for her work, including the 2021 Outstanding Research Paper Award in the Journal of Digital Learning in Teacher Education. Currently, Dr. Rehmat is working on a National Science Foundation-funded project entitled Biologically Inspired Design for Engineering Education (BIRDEE), working primarily with the research team and secondarily with the curriculum development team. Dr. Rehmat’s research interest involves investigating how engineering and computer science education can foster pre-college students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills to prepare them for the challenges of this evolving world.
